Campus Bible Study Ministry Apprentice

2022-2023

About Me

I studied Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at UNSW and have spent the last 2 years as an electrical engineer in railway signalling. I have attended Night Church at St Paul's Carlingford for 9 years and have had the opportunity to participate in and lead multiple ministries including Youth Group (SALT), Sunday School, summer missions, camps and music.

As a Christian I trust in Jesus who died on the cross but now reigns as Lord of all who alone can forgive sin (including mine!!!). This is earth-shattering news which impacts us all! I would love the opportunity to spend more time sharing with people about the Lord Jesus through reading the Bible.

Although I have enjoyed my life as an engineer, I have much less time and energy to do this. For this reason I am looking into full-time ministry through an apprenticeship with Campus Bible Study.

"For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised" - 2 Cor 5:14-15

About Campus Bible Study

Campus Bible Study is an evangelical Christian ministry based at UNSW, primarily aimed at students.

The mission of Campus Bible Study is: "Proclaiming the crucified Christ as Lord of all, we evangelise, teach and train University students, sending them to serve the Lord in Australia and the world, all to the glory of God"

Campus Bible Study runs:

  • weekly Bible talks

  • student-led Bible study groups

  • weekly training groups - eg training in evangelism, 1-2-1 Bible reading, Bible study leading, etc...

  • yearly Mid-Year Conference (MYC)

God has taught me so much through the staff at Campus Bible Study over the years, and I am particularly thankful for:

  1. evangelism being put on my agenda,

  2. being equipped for evangelism

  3. reading the Bible more carefully

I was persuaded through my own time at university that it is a crucial time for people as they consider the impact of the claims of the Bible on their lives.

About the Traineeship

Why a traineeship with Campus Bible Study?

A traineeship with Campus Bible Study will provide opportunities for me to do real gospel work with students in Bible studies, training groups, and evangelism. There are many many opportunities as students are on campus (in theory) and have lots of free time! Yet I will have a safety net via the supervision of my trainer and the CBS staff team. They will help me learn from mistakes, and train me in in applying the Bible to my life and ministry. I am also keen to wrestle with a) what ministry in a full-time capacity (6 days a week) will look like for me and b) what it is like to be a model to others as a Christian older brother, c) keep getting equipped to teach the Bible better. I have much to learn!

What will I be doing?

  1. Proclaiming to the Lost. I'll be bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ crucified to those who have not trusted in him. There are over 59,000 local and international students at UNSW, many of who do not yet trust and even have not heard of the Lord Jesus. On campus this will involve walk-up evangelism, one to ones, bible study.

  2. Growing Christians. I have been allocated responsibility over the Science faculty of Campus Bible Study. I will be reading the Bible with students through bible studies, one to ones, training course groups.

  3. Being Trained. As I go about these ministries I will be trained. This will involve meeting one to one with my trainer as well as group staff training. The purpose of this will be to deepen my own godliness, grasp of the truths of the Bible and ability to serve God's people in order to prepare me for a lifetime of ministry.

My financial target

I will be relying on God's sovereignty and the generosity of his people to do this apprenticeship. I will be working 6 days a week and will be entirely funded by donations.

My target to reach for the full 6 day week is $30,000 per year.

I could reach this target if over 2 years:

10 x ppl give $100/month + 20 x ppl give $50/month + 25 x ppl give $20/month

Monthly gifts are ideal but one-offs are more than welcome! However much or little you are able to contribute, I really appreciate your partnership in this manner!
